When Madison Square Garden underwent a massive renovation, they needed to create a sales center to sell advertising opportunities to clients, and to lease their new luxury suites. Hornall Anderson rose to the challenge, creating an impactful experience that culminated in a mock-up of the suites, and a simulated view into the new arena from the suite's seats.
In order to simulate the view the suite-owner would see, we needed to create a 3D model of the arena, and project the suite's viewpoint onto a giant screen. We opted to do this in real-time as opposed to pre-rendered views so that the experience would be more dynamic, and so that we could easily insert potential advertiser's logos in key areas in real-time when they visited the sales center. This was done using Microsoft's XNA game engine, and resulted in a convincing, accurate portrayal of the new arena.
We also needed to create an intuitive system for the sales staff to navigate through the different view-points as they met with their clients. We opted to use a Nintendo Wii remote as the main control mechanism, allowing them freedom of movement, and to be more engaged with their clients.
